Composition in Two Genres

My topic is Bullying. My genres include a Twitter campaign and a poem with a outline.

I’m looking for a way to combat bullying.

Rationale for Twitter Campaign
I chose to do a Twitter Campaign. Reason being,  campaigns allow you to extend the reach of your content to a relevant audience on Twitter. You can promote tweets that are published organically, or choose to create tweets that are only promoted to the audiences you target.Twitter is a great way to spread awareness because not only is it a big platform with great influencers but It allows you to make tweets about the issue, get retweets and see similar accounts. It is much easier today than it once was to deliver and spread a meaningful message concerning an important social issue. The vitality of leaflets and marches has not declined at all, but the use of hashtags and social media as a form to easily spread a certain notion and raise awareness about a movement, can actually function. I feel like a lot of people use Twitter so it would be easy to spread awareness. Bullying is a topic that always gets looked over, until someone commits suicide. This is significant because I was bullied before and no serious action was taken.

Reflection for Twitter Campaign
I made a Twitter account, followed accounts with the same interest as the one I made, then I made some tweets about Bullying. I feel like Twitter was a great place to talk about the issue.  When I made the Twitter account, I made about 20+ tweets concerning bullying. Doing this made me feel accomplished because though this is an assignment, I feel like if the page grows if can really be beneficial to people who are going through similar issues. This campaign is good because it brings light to a situation that a lot of people tend to ignore, for whatever reason. As I scrolled on Twitter, because of the type of account I made, I saw similar accounts to mine. I then realized that there are a lot of Bullying advocates and a lot of Bullying organizations. I came to the conclusion that the issue is not that there aren’t any organizations, the issue is that they are not doing enough.

I learned that there are many are a lot of organizations for bullying, but not enough action taken.

I learned this when I mad the twitter account and i saw all the other accounts with the same intention as my account.

This matters because I’ve experienced bullying before so it makes me really happy to see that other people are spreading awareness.

In light of learning this, I will try to do more to solve this problem.

Rationale for Poem and Bullying Hotline

I chose to do a Poem with a hotline at the end. I chose to do a poem because that is the only creative writing I am good at. Poetry is a creative arts therapy using the written word to understand, and then communicate, feelings and thoughts. Poetry is emotional. Writers get in touch with sentiments they might not have known they had until it was down on paper. Through poetry, one can start to understand the hindrances and blocks being formed around their mind. Expressing how one feels is difficult. I’ve found that poetry is one of the best outlets. For those who have a harder time expressing themselves, reading poetry can have a similar positive effect as writing it. Reading poetry allows one to see into the soul of another person, see what is weighing on their minds and on their hearts, and can open doors to feelings that are sometimes suppressed until that door is opened. Reading can shine a light on all those dark and hidden crevices of the heart and mind once thought permanently closed off to the world. I chose to do the hotline also because adolescents don’t always feel comfortable talking to someone they know or talking to peers. Some of them feel more comfortable staying anonymous because they fear that they will be judged. I wish I had made the account earlier so I would have more followers.

Reflection for Poem and Bullying Hotline

I wrote a poem from scratch that people going through bullying can relate to.  At the end of the poem i attached removable strips of paper with the hotline. The poem made me feel really sad because it is something i can relate to. It also made me happy because I feel like whoever reads this poem will be encouraged to keep fighting and to keep going because they serve a purpose. The hotline also made me feel good because when I was bullied, i had no one to talk to so the hotline would be beneficial for people who are in the same position I was in. The poem is good because sometimes the victim cannot put their thoughts into words but reading a poem may lift a heavy weight off of them or make them feel more confident. The hotline was also good because it is a way for the victim to express themselves without being judged or looked at differently. Although others may disagree, I feel like both the poem and the hotline can be very beneficial hung up on a school board where adolescents going through something similar can read it and  take the number.

I learned that my poem and hotline can motivate people to have hope and it can also put their feelings into words when they cant.

I learned this when i read my own poem and it made me feel better. It lifted a weight off of my shoulders.

This learning experience matters because I feel like other people just like me ill benefit from y genre, which is my intention.

In light of learning this, I feel like in the future I might start a website about bullying including my poems and hotlines.
